It’s that big day again, when thousands of Suffolk students arrive in coach-loads in Ipswich. The Suffolk Higher Education Convention is one of the biggest events of the year for the university as it is hosted on-site. I’ve been to quite a few; the Suffolk HEC used to be held at Trinity Park, the Suffolk Show-ground, where the stalls were situated inside barns and you were lucky if you got to sit on a hay bale outside!
However, for the past few years, this event has been held inside the main University Campus Suffolk building, situated on the redeveloped waterfront marina in the centre of Ipswich. There are over 100 British universities and student organizations that have stalls and tonnes of prospectuses and pamphlets to hand out.
There are also a few freebies too; in previous years, I’ve walked away with branded USB memory sticks, inflatable chairs, pens, bookmarks, and even my very own UCS piggy bank. I’m still using some of the pens that I collected over four years ago!
For those students who want more details, there is a selection of talks and seminars on student finance, how to choose a course, and how to apply. Sadly I’m not working the event this year, but I’ll probably still pop round to collect some prospectuses about Masters degrees, as my time to apply will be arriving shortly. I hope everyone who comes today walks away with something they wanted, and hopefully we’ll see you again soon.
